Christopher Columbus

October has a famous explorer born during the month named Christopher Columbus.
The children will learn how he discovered America by talking about his adventures.
The students will learn a rhyme to remember when America was discovered.  It is
"Colombus sailed the ocean blue in fourteen hundred minty two."

The Nina, PiƱa, and Santa Maria will sail down the Kindergarten hallway.  Each student
will build one using three different size squares for sails.  Also we will create boats made
out of celery, cream cheese, marshmallows (for the sails) and raisin (for the people).  This is a tasty treat and fun to make.

Kindergarten October Newsletter

My PhotoHi my name is Mary Danciak, I'm married and have two grown sons.  I have been working as a paraprofessional in a public school system for the past 15 years.  Currently I am attending Caldwell College to obtain my degree in elementary/special education.  I am working with Kindergarten children for the last 4 years.  I enjoy watching the faces of the children when they get excited about projects and fun activities.  I would like to share with you some of the fun things that will be    happening in Kindergarten for the month of October.

In the beginning of October it is "Walk Your
Child To School Day." This event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school to help protect our children. On this morning the students that are going to participate will gather at either the church on the north side of town or the park on the south side of town. International Walk to School Month gives children, parents, school teachers and community leaders an opportunity to be part of a global event as they celebrate the many benefits of walking. Walkers from around the world walk to school together for various reasons — all hoping to create communities that are safe places to walk.

Children are encouraged to walk along with their families to school. The faculty from school will also be walking along with the children to show their support. The children get so excited to see the principle and their teachers walking with them. It shows the children that their teachers care and are people too.
